Bank-A-Count president, Scott Blanke, and several local, long-standing customers hit the links at Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids on Monday, June 27th to support local cancer victims.  The third annual “Swing Against Cancer” event donates money directly to community members affected by cancer.  The goal is to help reduce expenses associated with fighting the disease.  Last year, 10 recipients selected by Aspirus Riverview Hospital received a total of over $10,000 from the event. An additional $3,500 was raised for the Cancer Patient Fund, which assists with eliminating the financial burden for cancer patients.

Thirty-five teams of four golfers each participated in the scramble event, which focused on fun, rather than intense competition.  Besides sending teams, local businesses were able to sponsor a hole or donate items for auction.  Lunch at the turn was included as well.

Also in attendance were a number of former Green Bay Packers, including Johnnie Gray, Bill Schroeder, Gary Ellerson, Darrell Thompson, and Tony Fisher.  Now a long drive golf professional, Bill Schroeder demonstrated his favorite trick shots, such as: long drives, hitting a golf ball while standing on an exercise ball, and hitting a ball through a sheet of plywood!  After the demonstration, the former football players took photos and played golf with the attendees.

Following the rounds of golf, golfers and Packers attended a banquet honoring this year’s seven recipients.  Each patient was presented with a check and posed for photos with the celebrities.  The silent and live auctions, raffles, and awards completed the event.
